The credit crisis certainly impacted homeowners and mortgage companies, but it also adversely affected pretty much everyone. All consumers, in general, were affected because prices had to increase. The everyday consumer had to deal with paying higher prices, whether they were a homeowner or not, for a majority of everyday items. Insurance companies were also affected because home values were dropping. People owed much more for their home than it was worth. When homeowners could not pay their mortgage, they also stopped paying for their mortgage insurance.
I do not feel that we are still feeling the fallout from the 2008 credit crisis, but I do feel that we are heading into another financial crisis. The economy recovered after 2008 and even got better. Unemployment was low for a while, and it seemed that the housing market was good for both buyers and sellers. I do feel that has changed in the last couple of years, and we are headed towards another crisis. I believe houses are selling for much more than they are worth right now, and consumers are scooping them up. I know people who have made almost 30 offers on different places just have a higher offer accepted over theirs. I know first-hand that my home sold for more than it was worth. While this worked out in my favor, I wonder if the person who bought it took on a mortgage that would eventually be unaffordable. Or if sooner than later, he will be underwater on his mortgage.
I think only some time will tell. There is time for everything to turn around before I would say we are in a crisis, but it could go that way.
