Background for assignments:

After reading chapter 14, you should be comfortable setting expectations for personnel as well as understanding components of effective staff development systems including supervision and coaching strategies. You should use the knowledge gained to assist you with this assignment.

SCENARIO

Your infant teacher, Ms. Jimicha has had staff and parents share concerns with you over the past 14 months of her employment about her interactions. Previously, you have not been given specific behavioral concerns and she has never demonstrated any communication concerns with you.

During the past 2 weeks, you have been given 3 very specific complaints about her tone, negative language and making staff feel like they are incapable or incompetent. It has been determined that you need to create a corrective action plan to assist her with improving the reported behaviors.

Specifically, you need to: Create a personal Staff Development plan for Ms. Jimicha to include:

Create 3 personal goals for Ms. Jimicha to accomplish within a 6-month period (this can include specific trainings, specific tasks or personal accomplishments as well as adhering to your observations), additionally, you will need to review progress of goals and next steps (include frequency of events)) AND

Create 2 supervision and/or coaching goals (explain how you will assist and support her), plan how you will conduct individual staff meetings with Ms. Jimicha (to review her progress of goals and next steps (include frequency of events)) and

After you create the plan, in a summary paragraph (with a minimum of 5-7 sentences), explain how you would implement use of the staff development plan answering the following questions:

1-How would you communicate the purpose and use of the goals to Ms. Jimicha?

2-How would you move forward if she was unable to meet the goals set within the 6-month period?

3-How do you feel this chapter and assignment has helped you see staff development differently?
