A rough draft of your Resume and Cover Letter. Your rough draft must include the following elements:

Microsoft Word document with .doc or .docx extension.

A draft of a cover letter that contains a Block or modified Block format header, opening paragraph, and body paragraph.

A draft of resume that is at least one page in length

Formatted in Functional or Chronological format

Contains ALL of the required sections listed below:

Objective Statement

Summary of Qualifications

Education history and diplomas or degrees earned

At least one entry in the Work or Volunteer experience section

A list of skills that includes at least three marketable skills

A list of References that contains at least one professional reference

Provide a copy of the vacancy announcement with your resume

RESUME ASSIGNMENT

OVERVIEW

For this assignment, you will review vacancy announcement from either:

A real organization with an entry-level job opening that aligns with your experience and interests

Or

A role vacancy with one of the Semester Project teams.

Then, you will create a résumé and cover letter to apply for the position you have chosen. You will employ skill and creativity to market your experience, education, and skills to the specific qualities and attributes the team or employer may value.

 

AUDIENCE*

Your resume should target a specific job vacancy and employer related to your major or career interests.

 

OBJECTIVES

Locate and analyze a vacancy announcement from an employer or job search site, or a role vacancy with a semester project team.

Identify how your own work and educational experience match the vacancy. 

Compose a résumé that is tailored to the vacancy announcement.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND FORMATTING

Resume must meet the following requirements:

1-2 page length for résumé; 1-page length for reference sheet

Contains:

Identify how your own work and educational experience match the required and desired candidate profile. If you do not have these requirements, how might you position yourself to be considered anyway?

Compose and format a cover letter and resume that is tailored to the vacancy announcement.

REQUIREMENTS AND FORMATTING 

Cover Letter must meet the following requirements:

One-page (300-500-word) maximum

Single-spaced 

Block or modified block format heading

Contains:

Professional salutation

Opening paragraph that indicates objective and how you learned about the opening

At least one body paragraph describing your professional and academic qualifications for the position

Closing paragraph that summarizes letter and includes contact information

Professional closing with space for signature element

Left aligned opening, body, and closing paragraphs
