Assignment: Problem Statement

In your submission, be sure to address the following:

A problem statement is a concise, clear explanation of a topic or issue to be researched. Use the words, “The problem to be addressed by the literature review is that [insert problem here].” Be sure that you have at least six pieces of evidence to justify addressing that problem as a gap in your literature. These should be synthesized into a concise summary of about 1 to 2 paragraphs beneath the initial problem sentence. [My topic: The problem to address in the literature review is to uncover how research documents that intrinsic motivation impacts student academic performance from the perspective of an educational psychologist and understanding ways to improve academic performance among students.]

A thesis statement is one sentence that states the main idea of a research paper. Use the words, “The purpose of the literature review is to understand the current state of the literature related to [insert the problem that you have identified]. [The purpose of the literature review is to understand the current state of the literature related to how to intrinsic motivation work and its relationship with academic performance, then understanding ways to enhance intrinsic motivation in distance learning.] You can end your problem statement section with your thesis statement.

Your problem statement must describe your problem or issue that must be addressed within your selected capstone topic/issue, reflect on its significance to the field of Educational Psychology and culminate with a thesis statement that will provide the framework for your literature review. Your thesis statement must be specific and cover exactly what you plan to discuss in your literature review, though this may change slightly as you read further into the literature.

Length: 2 pages, not including title or reference pages

The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards

Assignment 2: Create an Annotated Outline

For this assignment, create an annotated outline for your literature review paper. While a traditional outline allows you to structure your paper topic and main ideas, an annotated outline takes this traditional outline a step further by requiring you (the researcher) to add citations and evidence to support the main points stated in the outline.

Your annotated outline should build from your problem statement and thesis statement. Your outline must include the topic and main themes you plan to discuss in your literature review paper. Review the elements required in your paper (e.g., introduction with problem statement and thesis; description of topic/issue; thematic, synthesis of research; description of solutions/best practices; conclusion) and include these elements in your outline. Next, be sure to support each bulleted theme from your outline with a research citation. Plan to incorporate at least 6 to 8 scholarly references in your annotated outline.
