Social Ecology and Demography

In your first assignment, you should address the following sections of the demographic profile project:
1. Introduction
Tell readers what the report is about and what the purposes of the report are. Explain why you choose the country for your analysis (i.e., why is it important or interesting to study the demographic status of the country academically and practically, and/or what personal reasons motivate you to select the country). Outline what you plan to discuss in your report (see syllabus to know what sections should be included in the final report).
2. Data
Discuss what data are available for your country. Also discuss the sources and quality of data used for your report (discuss the sources of data, NOT the data). You should use the latest data possible and for certain sections (e.g., population changes) longitudinal data (data showing changes over time) as well.
3. History and Geography
Briefly describe the physical setting (note: you may want to attach a map) and history of the country under study.
4. Population Changes
Show changes in population size and growth rate with tables and/or graphs and discuss the reasons for the changes. What changes took place in terms of population size and population growth rate in a country you have been examining? What are the reasons for these changes? How much of the demographic transition has this country experienced? Is the experience of its demographic transition consistent with the classical model of the Theory of Demographic Transition? (Hint: To answer this question, you first need to determine the crude birth rate, crude death rate, and if the population is increasing or decreasing; you may want to briefly describe the major stages of the Theory of Demographic Transition presented in chapter 3 and include the figure depicting it graphically)
5. Mortality Rates
Discuss crude death rate, infant mortality rate, life expectancy, cause-specific mortality rates, and trends in these indicators over time.
Please review the “Instructions for Demographic Profile Project” in the syllabus before you start working on this assignment. Your assignment should be at least 5 pages long, excluding all tables, figures, and references. Figures must be included at the end of the assignment to illustrate your country`s trends in population changes and mortality rates. References to at least 5 credible sources must be included, plus the references to the textbook. References page and in-text citations must be formatted in the style of the American Sociological Association. Please proofread your work.
